O’Brien Pharmacy has been a welcoming landmark at
the intersection of Front Street and Milton Avenue in
the Village of Ballston Spa for generations.
Combining the charm of a bygone era with new millennium
conveniences, the corner drug store has retained the
best of what the business offered in the past while
keeping up with the changing times where it matters
most. In a league of its own as the last independently
owned pharmacy in Ballston Spa, O’Brien is also the only
place in the village that offers a prescription delivery
service for shut-ins.
Nearly half a century has passed since patriarch James
P. O’Brien purchased the business that had begun serving
the community as Leahy’s Drug Store in 1927 and became
known as Lattimore’s Pharmacy in 1946. (Long before
becoming the site of an apothecary, the property had
gone down in history as the location of the
world-renowned Sans Souci Hotel. After the posh resort
was razed in 1887, the prime commercial lot attracted
the attention of George West III who established a
pioneering automotive business there.)
